3 arrested, 1 hospitalized after chase, pot bust at shopping center | News
ATHENS, AL (WAFF)- It was a suspect chasing a suspect. Police chasing suspects. Marijuana thrown under shopping carts. A teen-age suspect getting hit by a vehicle driven by another teen-age suspect.
And it all happened Sunday night at the Publix shopping center on Lindsay Lane in Athens.
Police said the series of incidents began around 10 p.m. when they received a call about a pedestrian hit by a vehicle at the shopping center.
When they arrived, the officers were told four people were allegedly involved in a marijuana sale and callers told dispatchers that one of the four threw something under the corral for the shopping carts. Sgt. Dusty Meadows later found marijuana under the carts.
Meanwhile, Jason Cole Scott and a 17-year-old were allegedly selling the marijuana to Keith Keshawn Cosby and a 19-year-old. Police said Cosby and the other person ran in different directions with the marijuana.
Scott, a passenger in the truck, jumped out and allegedly chased after Cosby. The 17-year-old drove after the 19-year-old, hitting him behind the store, police said.
The 19-year-old was treated at Athens Hospital. Police did not have his condition nor released his name.
The 17-year-old was charged with assault and possession of marijuana. He was released to a parent.
Scott was charged with possession of marijuana, booked and transferred to the Limestone County Jail.
Cosby was charged with conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime and bonded out after being booked at the Athens Police Department.
The investigation is continuing and police said more charges are likely.
