Man arrested for DUI after Athens wreck | Crime
ATHENS, AL - An Athens man is charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident after a wreck that sent one person to the hospital.
According to police, 34 year old Daniel Bates rear ended another vehicle with his truck on West Hobbs Street near Bullington Road. The accident happened around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night. Witnesses say Bates tried to drive away, but lost control and crashed into ditch.
When officers arrived on scene, they found Bates standing by his truck. He suffered minor injuries but refused treatment. Investigators determined he was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him on the scene.
The driver of the other car was taken to Athens-Limestone Hospital. Their name and condition aren't available at this time.
Bates is being held in the Limestone County Jail.
