Police : Brazen shoplifters try to swipe $900 in car batteries

A pair of brazen shoplifters are behind bars in Athens.

The incident happened Monday at the Wal-Mart on Highway 72.

According to Athens Police, 21 year old Whitney Carden and 25 year old Rodtavius Buford loaded up a shopping cart with car batteries and other merchandise, then strolled right out of the store without paying.

Loss prevention employees called police, who arrived within minutes. The two were stopped in the parking lot before they could leave the scene. Investigators say the two had more than $900 worth of items in their cart. They also believe Buford pulled a similar crime two weeks ago, where $1300 in car batteries were stolen from the same Wal-Mart.
