Athens State hosts benefit disc golf tournament | Community Spirit
The Alumni Association of Athens State University sponsored its first Midnight Madness Disc Golf Tournament on August 17. Proceeds went to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Bill Bullington, class of 1999, coordinated the tournament and looks forward to working with the University, Alumni Association and American Cancer Society again. The tournament raised $910 for the American Cancer Society.
Thirty-two disc golfers played eighteen holes before dark and eighteen after dark. Players used LED lights and glow sticks to light their disks and baskets. Each player’s entry fee of $30 payed for a CRF Champion Glo Disc, LEDs and batteries, hiking socks and food.
Best score prizes were awarded to Tyler Harvin in Open, Katie Cunningham in Women, Seth Wiley in Advanced/Intermediate, Larry Burge, Jr. in Recreational and Chris Reese in Novice/Junior.
Pepsi of Decatur provided beverages, Athens State Alumni Association provided food, Zanfel provided promotional items and Nathan Broussard and Louis Yarborough provided sponsorships.
