Athens Farmer's Market held despite rain | Community Spirit
Even though the weather was rainy, Athens still held its Saturday Farmer’s Market.
A good crowd came to check out the produce from local farmers. One of the big highlights this week was that the tomato crop finally came in.
Another highlight was the market’s patriotic theme - New Orleans style. Mardi Gras style beads, colored red, white and blue, were passed out. A parade was held, led by a brass band.
Organizers will hold special events each week to draw in more people. Laurie Glenn said they are trying to make the market a Saturday morning destination for families.
The Athens Saturday Markets will be held every Saturday morning through the end of August.
