2013 'Fiddle Champion' crowned | Arts & Culture
The 47th annual Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention crowned its “Fiddle Champion” Saturday night.
Joel Whittinghill of Bowling Green, Kentucky, won the title after a “fiddle off,” which pits top fiddlers from junior and senior divisions against each other. Whittinghill, who also won the junior fiddle division, earned the convention’s top prize: $1,000. Wayne Jerrolds of Savannah, Tennessee, won runner-up.
The Old Time Fiddlers Convention was sponsored by the Athens State University Foundation and the Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce. The convention was held on Athens State University’s campus and contributed more than $500,000 to the university to fund student scholarships and university projects.
